A Journey To the Rwenzori

Rwenzori Climbing Tour

The Rwenzori Mountains, famously known as the Mountains of the Moon, are located at the border between Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. They occupy 120 km of length and 65 km of width. They contain Africa’s third tallest mountain – Mt. Stanley (5109 m), coming after Mt. Kilimanjaro (5895 m) of Tanzania and Mt. Kenya (5199 m) of Kenya.

The Rwenzoris are arguably the most beautiful mountains in Africa, supporting stunning glaciers, numerous rivers, waterfalls, lakes, and a host of rare and endemic wildlife. They are also one of the only three mountains in Africa that have permanently snow-capped peaks.

Mountain Rwenzori has two prominent hiking trails: the Central Circuit Trail and the Kilembe Trail. Climbing Margherita Peak is more of a hard scramble than a climb except for a few difficult moves. The rewards and exhilaration of reaching the top are enormous as you look across Albert Peak to the DRC (Congo) and east across the spectra of the Rwenzori Mountains.

Climbers and hikers are treated to beautiful features, an array of wildlife, and breathtaking scenery. Given the block-type formation of the Rwenzori Mountains, its terrain is highly uneven, which makes climbing longer and challenging but also more adventurous! This Rwenzori Mountains hike and climbing tour takes you on one of the best mountain climbing adventures in the world. As of 2012, National Geographic ranked the Rwenzori Mountains the best in Africa and ninth in the whole world for hiking and climbing experiences.
